Chevron Energy Technology Company (ETC) is accepting online applications for the position of Seismic Processing Research Geophysicist located in San Ramon, California or Houston, Texas.
Overview:
ETC has an immediate opening on the Seismic Processing R&D Team in San Ramon, California, or Houston, Texas, for experienced Research and Development Land Data Processing Geophysicist.
The successful candidate will be part of a R&D team responsible for conducting research and developing advanced true amplitude data processing algorithms and workflows improving seismic data quality. Travel is necessary for communication and collaboration in research projects, deployment of new technologies and workflows as well as educational seminars and conferences.
Position Details: Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
# Conduct independent geophysical research and develop efficient processing algorithms and applications targeted for land and multi-azimuth data.
# Work closely with the seismic imaging, acquisition, and velocity modeling R&D and services teams to create integrated, interpretative solutions and workflows for processing and analyzing seismic data.
# Mentor, support and teach other earth scientists in using the software and workflows that are developed.
# Work collaboratively with R&D technology, service and business unit teams around the world for successful and rapid implementation of new technology to be applied on seismic data.
# Robust software implementations of land seismic data processing applications into an internal, integrated seismic data processing platform (ProMax) running on high performance, parallel computing Linux clusters.
# Communicate R&D results to peers, users, customers, and management.
Required Qualifications:
# A Ph.D. in Geophysics.
# A minimum of 4 years of directly related Oil and Gas industry experience as a researcher and developer creating robust software applications (production-level code) and workflows for land seismic data processing.
# Experience with developing extensions and enhancements to current technology (scope, frame, prototype, commercialize, deploy, support, maintain and renew technology).
# Demonstrated proficiency in programming in C++, C, FORTRAN, Java and MPI to build computationally efficient (parallel) 3D applications on high performance Linux clusters.
# Experience with deployment of 2D/3D seismic data processing applications onto Linux Clusters and into production data processing platforms.
# Experience with transferring technology to service and business unit teams worldwide for application on seismic data (includes development of workflows, workshops, documentation, mentoring and training earth scientists on how to use the technology).
# Experience with managing projects: planning, directing, coordinating, and conducting earth science research.
# Ability to work collaboratively with other R&D, service, operations, and business units worldwide.
# Excellent communication skills.
# Broad theoretical and practical understanding of geophysics, signal processing, wave propagation, and inversion especially in the areas of statics, attenuation, denoise, for land and multi-azimuth data processing.
# Expertise in 2D/3D seismic data processing from field tapes through post migration enhancements.
# Proficiency in modern software development methods such as object-oriented design, parallel programming and interactive applications.
Preferred Qualifications:
# Ability to develop applications for the ProMax Seismic Data Processing platform or interactive GUIs.
