Refinery Overview
The Ferndale Refinery is located in Ferndale, WA which is located on Puget Sound, about 20 miles south of the U.S. - Canada border. The refinery processes about 105,000 barrels per day of oil and is a high conversion facility allowing optimized utilization of feedstock. The refinery includes Clean Gasoline and Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel units providing emissions friendly products to meet today's stringent standards. Process Engineers provide process technical expertise and services focused on enhancing the safety, reliability and profitability of either a process flow or a specific unit performance. This position interfaces with all departments throughout the refinery including operations, maintenance, planning and technical services. This position resides within the technical services department.
Responsibilities
The Process Engineer is responsible for:
* Monitoring/evaluating unit performance and maintaining effective monitoring reports.
* Troubleshooting operational and process quality problems.
* Developing solutions for unit optimization.
* Generating process design improvement projects for strategic and real business improvement.
* Providing technical content for operating procedures.
* Providing detailed process specifications and maintaining P&ID's and equipment data sheets.
* Completing process hazard analysis and process safety management (PSM) requirements.
* Developing and monitoring key performance metrics for assigned units.
* Providing guidance to operations consistent with environmental and operational requirements.
* Maintaining capital and operating expense budget.
* Working outdoors around the units and having the ability to climb ladders and towers and to wear Personal Protective Equipment.

o To work around chemicals, including acids and bases
o To wear fire retardent clothing and personal protective equipment (such as steel-toe shoes, ear and eye protection)
o To maintain your face daily so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly (some example include being free of facial hair and/or clean shaven)
o To work outside in harsh weather conditions
o To work with petroleum products that are under high pressure and heat
o To read technical procedures and materials in English
